Smoking...

Is smoking really that much of a sin??? Well, it is certainly addictive, and in this sense, could be considered a "drug" - though, if we believe this, then surely alcohol too is a drug, since this becomes addictive and slowly intoxicates the body causing liver damage...

Smoking is very bad for our health...but we know that, so why is there a continued fascination? This fetish begins from childhood...the peer pressure, trying to fit in etc...but a cigarette is often used in films because it contributes to the character of the individual smoker. For example, smoking is often used as an aid to seduction and sex...and if it is used in this way on television, is it sending out a wrong message to those who watch, particularly younger people who are more impressionable..? This is a different argument but i do think that smokers should try to quit both for their own health, but also for the dangers inflicted on passive smokers...
